Maldives Customs Service has cracked down on a drug smuggling case at Velana International Airport, on Tuesday.
Customs officials found 99 pills suspected to contain narcotic substances inside a parcel during inspection and weigh a total of 38.16 grams. Said pills had turned positive to ecstasy following tests.
Further, customs revealed that the drugs, that were to be smuggled to neighboring Sri Lanka via Maldives, carry a street value of over MVR 70,000.
While the seized drugs have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), police revealed that they have launched investigations into the case.
So far this year, customs officials have seized a total of 23.7 kilograms of drugs through several cases.
