The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)'s 'Statute of the OIC Women Development Organization' has been forwarded to the People’s Majlis for review.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih forwarded the statute upon the advice of his Cabinet Ministers during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

During Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, Solih’s ministers recommended to forward the statute as it will bring benefits in plenty as well as renewed opportunities to Maldives in regard to the work being carried out by the government in order to enhance women's roles in the society.

Established in 2013 as part of the OIC’s 10-year action plan, the OIC Women Development Organization aims to empower women and enhance their participation in programs designed to diversify and strengthen the many skillsets women come with.

This is aimed to be carried out through the establishment of a sub-organization which will solely be devoted to these goals.

Current signatories of the statute include several member states of the OIC, including Saudi Arabia, Libya, Turkey, Egypt and Gambia.
