Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom called on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday.

In a tweet sent after, Gayoom said that they had “discussed many issues of national importance.”

Furthermore, as the former president continues the process of registering his ‘Maldives Reform Movement’ at the Elections Commission, he assured the incumbent president of the party’s support.

MRM is one of the ruling coalition partners, along with Jumhooree Party, Adhaalath Party and main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Leaders of these parties backed Solih as a presidential candidate, with JP’s Faisal Naseem as his running mate, to beat then President Abdulla Yameen in last September’s election.

While MRM is yet to be registered officially, it officially applied for registration last week with 3,313 application forms.
