President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed chancellors to the Maldives’ National University (MNU) and Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).

Dr. Hassan Hameed and Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussain have been appointed to MNU and IUM, respectively, and their letters of appointment were presented at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

The Office noted that both are “longstanding luminaries in the Maldivian education sector”.

Dr Hameed had previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of MNU, Rector at the Maldives College of Higher Education, and in various senior capacities in the education field.

Dr Mohamed Zahir had previously served once before as Chancellor at the Islamic University, and also as the Chancellor at MNU; he has also held several ministerial portfolios at the cabinet-level and at the President's office over a long and distinguished career.
