Teachers' salary structure redrafted, to fulfill pledge to increase salary
 
The minister also noted that they are currently working to improve pay for overtime and provide additional incentives

In order to fulfill the current administration’s pledge to increase the salary of public-school teachers, the education ministry has redrafted teachers’ salary structure.

Minister Aishath Ali announced this at a press conference on Thursday, emphasizing that doing so is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s main pledges and that the salary structure has been redrafted as per discussions with the President’ Office.

The minister added that good news will be announced “very soon.”

Aishath further noted that they are currently working to improve pay for overtime and provide additional incentives.

The education minister that she has noticed that interest for teaching “is decreasing,” adding that the reason is the low income.

Amendment of the current teachers’ salary structure has been a key demand of teachers for years, and a number of them met with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during the presidential campaign last year.
