School managers have expressed concern over the delay in reforming the salary structure of principals, which the current administration announced it would do three years ago.

One of them spoke to RaajjeMV under the condition of anonymity, revealing that a number of teaching working under his organization earn more.

He expressed the concern that most school principals are charged with greater responsibility compared to teachers operating under them while the latter is given more monthly compensation.

In 2015, the Education Ministry said it had compiled a new pay structure for school principals and that it has been forwarded for approval from the President’s Office.

Another principal that spoke with RaajjeMV said that he had been informed by a deputy minister at the Education Ministry that the pay structure is awaiting approval.

They had further said that their monthly salaries are not enough to fund further education.

Director General Mohamed Saeed, of the ministry, said that the administration had begun evaluating and amending several components of the local public education system.

“The pay structure will bring many changes to how principals receive their monthly payment; the amending process is still ongoing” Saeed said.

Saeed was confident that the results of these changes will be seen soon after they are implemented.
