Transport Authority has begun granting permission to private hire taxis.
In a press release on Tuesday, Transport Authority stated that those interested will be allowed to accept private fares via the apps.
Interested drivers can register by sending in the necessary applications.
Transport Authority stated that it has nullified its new rule for drivers to only accept fares through the taxi apps.
The Authority also stated that it will allow taxi drivers to take an additional MVR 5 for fares from 12am to 6am.
Driver’s association has recently expressed outrage over the new rules, expressing concern over the lowered fares and the use of taxi apps.
The police service has begun an operation to check whether taxi drivers are following the new regulations.
