Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed has departed to Ihavandhoo island of Haa Alifu atoll on an official visit.

He is accompanied by Ihavandhoo’s representative in parliament, Mohamed Shifau, as well as some other lawmakers representing islands in the northernmost atoll; Baarah constituency MP Ahmed Abdulla and Makunudhoo constituency MP Mohamed Raai.

While the 19th parliament took oath of office on May 28, Speaker Nasheed assured that it will listen to the people while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that “it will be one of the most progressive parliaments in recent history.”

As per his promise, the current parliament is seen to be very productive with Nasheed as speaker.

According to the People’s Majlis website, a total of 42 sittings were held throughout the parliament’s three sessions in 2018. While the new 87-member parliament began work with the year’s second session, there have already been 28 sittings.
