Rilwan’s family heads to Court over lack of information
Wanted a solution out of Court, none found
Missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan
The family of missing journalist and blogger Ahmed Rilwan Abdullah has filed case in Civil Court to find out additional details on his disappearance.
Rilwan was abducted on the night of August 8,2014. Based on the information provided by the Police, Rilwan was bundled into a red car in Hulhumale’. Hair samples found in the car matched the DNA of Rilwan’s mother. While Rilwan was followed, as reported by Police, all arrested in connection to the case had been released.
Police last released information on Rilwan last April. No additional information had been released since then.
The case was filed in December last year, after nine months of no information, under the Right to Information Act. Some hearings of the case were carried out.
A statement released by the family said the case was filed to enquire on his abduction. The statement added that while investigations were carried out, there was scant information shared with the family. The family said that they did not wish to know any information that would hinder the investigation.
However, given that nine months had lapsed between information provided, the family said that it was hard to believe that any progress had been made in the investigation. The family said that it was imperative that information on the case was shared with the family, adding that they wanted information outside of Court and in confidence.
