United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF)’s Regional Director for South Asia, Jean Gough has called on First Lady Fazna Ahmed, where the first lady expressed interest in working with the organization "in any capacity."

The meeting took place at Mulee-aage on Tuesday morning.

At the meeting, the UNICEF regional director and first lady discussed on “the prospect of increasing collaboration with regard to child protection and children's equitable access to services and mechanisms designed to ensure their safety.”

Gough also highlighted sports “as an area in which children often learn important life lessons” such as teamwork and being graceful in victory and defeat, and recommended “to incorporate sport into current strategies and curriculums designed to build up children's social skills.”

She also urged the first lady “to continue her active role in advocating for the rights and welfare of children of all ages, in partnership with UNICEF.”

Fazna stated that she would be “delighted” to do so, highlighting keenness in seeking “a platform to do more social work."

Further noting her interest in doing “more work” in sports and education, the first lady highlighted that the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games will be held in Maldives and added that it would “provide a wonderful opportunity to become constructively engaged in these areas.”

The first lady also expressed her interest in working with UNICEF team “for the sake of child-welfare,” adding that she is ready to assist “in any capacity.”
