Following devastating floods that affected over 80,000 in different parts of neighboring India, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has offered condolences to his counterpart, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

In his message, FM Shahid expressed his grief in learning of the news of extreme weather events affecting different parts of the neighboring country within the last few days. The floods caused loss of innocent lives, damage to property and injury to thousands.

He extended heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the government and people of Maldives to the government and people to India, especially to those affected.

“I hope that the recovery efforts proceed with ease and success and commend the perseverance of the people of India during this difficult time.”

International media reports Indian Disaster Management Department having cited that the death toll remains at 127.

A total of 13 districts were hit by the disaster, out of which only two districts reported no fatalities.

India’s Disaster Management Department places the total number of people hit by the flood at 88,460, authorities reveal that five rivers are flowing at dangerous levels in nine places in Bihar.
