Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof receives the flag to host the Indian Ocean Island Games 2023

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has been given the flag of the Indian Ocean Island Games after Maldives won its bid to host the 2023 games.

Minister Mahloof received the flag at the ceremony held on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the Indian Ocean Island Games 2019.

On Twitter, the Minister said he was honoured to receive the flag and said that he invites young athletes of the Indian Ocean to the Maldives.

Maldives won its bid to host the 2023 games with four votes, while Comoros and Madagascar received one each.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his cabinet had heavily lobbied to to win the bid, with Foreign Minister Shahid and Minister Mahloof visiting countries in the Indian Ocean to gain support.
