Acting Youth & Sports Minister Ali Waheed has said that he will report Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s involvement in politics and an embezzlement case to FIFA.
At a press conference on Monday, the Minister said that FAM has been implicated in the MMPRC embezzlement case and that FAM’s building housed former first lady Fathimath Ibrahim’s office.
FAM earlier stated that the first lady’s office was established in their building during last year’s presidential election as part of a third-party agreement.
Minister Waheed said that FAM does not have the authority to allow any political activities, even if it is part of a third-party agreement.
Also, denying FAM President’s claim that the government has stopped funding football clubs, Minister Waheed said that the government will continue to support the clubs.
