In commemoration of the country’s 54th Independence Day, the First Couple has hosted an official assembly on the eve of the day.
President Ibrahim Mohamed and First Lady Fazna Ahmed hosted the “Independence Day Assembly 2019” at Dharubaaruge on Thursday evening, which was joined by several top government officials.
During the assembly, the First Couple extended warm felicitations of the day to everyone present.
The assembly was attended by President Solih’s deputy, Faisal Naseem and spouse Aishath Shamsadha along with esteemed guests, Parliament Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed, members of the Parliament, President Solih’s Cabinet of Ministers, Ministers of State as well as long-serving government officials.
The President’s Office also extended felicitations of the day on Thursday.
President Solih is also set to address the people in celebration of the day at 10am on Friday.
The address will be broadcast live through media.
Maldives celebrates her independence on 26 July every year since gaining independence from the British on the 26 July 1965 after 77 years as a British protectorate.
