Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has said that police officers still have to face danger on duty.
Speaking at the event to celebrate Police Memorial Day, Commissioner Hameed said that while most people are accepting of the police service, there are some who are hostile towards officers and will try to obstruct their work and in rare cases attempt to harass and harm them.
Commissioner Hameed said that officers will face physical and psychological harm and will have to deal with verbal abuse and intimidation on social media, which are acts that the police service condemns.
He appealed on the public to help stop the few who harass the police and also called on officers to fulfill their responsibilities within the law.
He said that senior officials have prioritized building a framework to protect employees of the police service from harm.
The Police Memorial Day is an annual nationwide event which aims to remember, honour and pay respects to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
