BML seniors were summoned for statements during ACC's investigation

The Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives (ACC) has revealed that 38 employees from Bank of Maldives (BML) were involved in the massive case of graft involving Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Upon being summoned for questioning to parliament’s financial committee on Tuesday, ACC President Muavviz Rasheed revealed that they are currently running investigations to see the extent of the the national bank's involvement in the embezzlement case.

He added that they have included all the levels in the investigation without targeting just one level of employees.

Thus far, ACC has identified 38 employees of the national bank to have been involved in carrying out the bank transfers to accounts of SOF Private Limited, a company implicated in the scandal, revealed Muavviz, adding that they are currently working to take statements from said employees.

He however, did not reveal details of the employees alleged to have been involved in the scandal, however, it has been revealed that the employees come from all levels of the company.

Once the investigations are completed, the extent of the bank’s involvement in the scandal will be revealed, said Muavviz.

The latest investigative report publicized by the corruption watchdog reveals that funds embezzled through MMPRC reaches MVR 1.4 billion.
