Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs that were being smuggled into the country via air.

Customs officials had searched a 21-year-old man travelling to Maldives from Trivandrum, India on Friday due to suspicious behavior.

Upon searching the 21-year-old’s luggage, customs officials found several bottles suspected to contain narcotics. After running tests, they had turned positive to hashish oil.

While the drugs seized weigh over one kilogram, it is expected to be worth MVR 667,000.

Customs officials have since handed the drugs over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) who have taken on investigations into the case.
