Wife of Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi has been dismissed.

Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor had been Maldives' deputy ambassador to Malaysia, since being appointed to the post in the previous administration.

While Ghaniya has been dismissed, Judicial Service Commission (JSC) suspended Justice Didi over an ongoing bribery investigation against him.

This led to a power fight between the Commission and the Supreme Court, who issued a stay order in Didi’s case. While the JSC passed to uphold its initial decision, Supreme Court said that any decision against it “is invalid” whether by JSC or the People’s Majlis.

A case against Didi was filed by current parliament speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed, at both the JSC and Maldives Police Service (MPS).

He is accused of having taken USD one million to convict the former president in 2015. RaajjeMV understands that this was deposited in his wife’s US dollar bank account, in Malaysia.

Didi is also suspected of using his position as a top court judge to gain undue influence over others.

JSC on Tuesday revealed that its investigative committee has launched probes into five disciplinary cases against Didi.

The justice was summoned to the committee two nights ago, where he asked to conduct the probe in public.

The Commission has since passed to make it public, and is looking for “a big enough venue.”
