One of the largest multilateral gatherings being held in Maldives in over a decade, the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 has kicked off on Monday.
While the President’s Office has expressed optimism that this year’s forum will yield a beneficial outcome for the Maldivian people, it is being held at Kurumba Maldives and will proceed till Tuesday.
While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the event, it is being held under the theme “Investing in a Resilient and Sustainable Maldives” in partnership with the President’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance.
Acting as a platform for all of the country’s current and prospective development partners, the forum will see discussions on ways to collaborate to take President Solih’s development agenda forward and to fulfill his vision of a “Jazeera Raajje” or island nation.
The information sessions on the government’s key priority areas will shed light on potential new avenues for partnership and are to be held on Monday and Tuesday. They will provide an overview of the achievements and future policy initiatives by the government in regards to improving its macroeconomic and fiscal performance as well as investing in a “blue economy”.
Further, it focuses on ensuring social outcomes, enhancing good governance, justice and rule of law as well as partnering for development,
The forum signals keenness of the current administration to positively engage in issues of mutual concern with partners, said the President’s Office.
The initiation event was joined by Vice President Faisal Naseem and cabinet ministers.
