Ministry of Higher Education is working to introduce a ‘Higher Education Act.’
Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan announced this on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme, on Saturday.
He said that the ministry is currently working to fulfill the incumbent president’s campaign pledges, and that they will proceed with the ministry’s “action plan” afterwards.
Noting that this includes the introduction of a ‘Higher Education Act,’ the minister stated that the aim of this is to further strengthen the country’s education system.
“Maldives needs a law that will bring all higher education matters under one umbrella. Due to the lack of this, we sometimes have to work on an ad hoc basis. Hence, we are working to introduce a Higher Education Act”Dr. Ibrahim Hassan![]()
The minister noted that other work is being carried out to improve the country’s education system, including to improve education quality.
The ministry is also working to provide a “library service” for those studying in Maldives, as well training opportunities in governance and other fields.
While the ministry has been tasked with the development of a junior college, Dr. Hassan said they are giving this the highest priority.
