The 11 suspects apprehended in a drug bust in Malé City on Monday have been remanded by five days.

Police said that they were arrested during a raid at Everest-Aage in the Maafannu ward of the city, following a tip of possible drug sales, on Monday.

Arrested are eight Maldivian men between the ages of 23 and 38, as well as three Bangladeshis between 23 to 30 years.

During the raid, police found a rubber packet with suspected narcotics, as well as a substance covered in paper.

Police said that they had to smash the wall to enter the house, due to the iron gates planted at the entrance.

Police added that the house was being used for a large-scale drug trafficking operation.

In their efforts to end drug trafficking in the country, police arrested 37 Maldivians in a drug bust last week.

Earlier on Tuesday, two suspects arrested- with three kilograms of suspected narcotics- were released by the Criminal Court.

While they were arrested in a raid at a house in the capital’s suburban district, the Criminal Court said that they were released due to incomplete raid and arrest orders.

According to the court, the orders did not have the required signature of the judge that authorized them, nor the court stamp.
