RaajjeMV has learnt that parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed submitted a complaint accusing Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi of accepting USD 1 million to sentence him to 13 years in prison.
Former President Nasheed submitted the disciplinary complaint to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) via a letter on Sunday, which stated that Justice Didi had accepted USD 1 million to convict a politician.
RaajjeMV understands that an unknown source transferred the money to an account in Malaysia owned by Justice Didi’s wife.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s investigation into the case had stalled as the money was transferred to an overseas account and the ACC had failed to gain more information.
Justice Didi was the presiding judge when the Criminal Court sentenced Nasheed to 13 years in prison on March 13, 2015, for the unlawful arrest of a judge during his administration. The sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court on November 26, 2018.
Abdulla Didi was promoted to the High Court in June 2015 and then to the Supreme Court on June 28, 2018.
