Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology has stated that the government is ready to allow more internet service provides in the Maldives if its work to slash internet prices fail.

The negotiations to slash internet prices, according to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge, began in March.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee show, State Minister Ali Solih said they are at the last stage of negotiations with internet service provides Dhiraagu, Ooredoo, and Raajje Online.

Noting that the negotiations have become drawn out, State Minister Solih said that the government will allow other internet service provides in the Maldives if their work to slash internet prices fail.

He also said that their survey of 26 countries show that Maldives’ internet prices are much higher and that they have proposed cheaper prices to the internet providers, adding that they are likely to come to an agreement within a week.
