Islamic Ministry stated that it has collected MVR 1.6 million as Zakat since the start of Ramadan.

The ministry’s statistics show that it has collected MVR 1,655,275 as Zakat up until the 16th day of the fasting month.

This is a MVR 200,000 increase compared to the amount collected in the middle of last year’s Ramadan, which was MVR 1,499,337.

The amount for Zakat-Al-Fitr is deemed to be money worth 2.4 kg of rice grain per person. Muslims must donate money worth 2.4 kg of the general type of rice grains used by the individual.

The ministry stated that it is accepting Zakat at community centers and island councils from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm until June 2.

Zakat can be donated via Dhiraagu by calling its prepaid number and dialing454# or via Ooredoo by dialing909#.
