Maldives Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen has discussed capacity building of medical doctors and nurses in the Maldives, with his counterpart in Malaysia, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Minister Ameen, who departed to Geneva, Switzerland to participate in the 72nd Session of the World Health Organization (WHO)'s World Health Assembly (WHA) on 18 May, met with his Malaysian counterpart on Monday.

Both ministers had discussed the challenges surfacing for the health sector as well as the efforts for the sector’s progress, during the meeting.

Further, they discussed training more doctors and nurses to begin servicing in the Maldives.

The annual World Health Assembly is taking place from 20th to 28th May.

While the assembly is attended by delegations from all WHO member states, it determines the policies of the WHO.

The assembly focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the WHO’s Executive Board and will be appointing the Director-General, reviewing and approving proposed program budgets as well as supervising financial policies during the session.
