Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Maleeh Jamal has said they are at the final stage of negotiations to slash internet prices.
In a video posted online on Sunday, Minister Maleeh said they have held long discussions on slashing internet prices as per President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge.
Minister Maleeh said they have been in discussions with the Communications Authority of Maldives, and internet service providers ROL, Dhiraagu, and Ooredoo.
He said that their discussions are based on the communications authority’s survey into 26 countries, which showed that internet prices in Maldives are higher than average.
The discussions aim to find favorable solutions to both parties, he said, adding that special focus was placed on slashing internet prices for small and medium-sized businesses to develop the economy.
He added that the government wants to slash internet prices to make it more affordable for the public and will not hesitate to increase competition if needed.
