Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has concluded his three-day trip to Laamu Atoll, on Saturday.
While the minister traveled to Gan, Fonadhoo, Kahdhoo and Baresdhoo islands during the trip, he met with members of Gan and Fonadhoo councils, as well as the Laamu Atoll council and other stakeholders.
Waheed also attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Mathiveri Futsal Challenge 2019’ in Gan, on Friday.
While the minister began the Laamu Atoll tour on Thursday, the tourism ministry said that the purpose of the trip is to inquire on the challenges to local tourism, as well as the needs. He is expected to travel to other parts of the country as well, in the ministry’s work to expand local tourism.
During his trip, Minister Waheed took to Twitter to assure that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s development pledges to the atoll will be fulfilled.
Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) managing director Mohamed Raaidh accompanied him on the trip, as well as officials from both MITDC and the tourism ministry.
Newly elected parliamentarians for Gan and Fonadhoo constituency, Mohamed Wisam and Moosa Siraj accompanied the minister and team during their visit.
