The 31-year-old woman had died after being run over by the bus

The body of the Ukrainian tourist that died in a bus accident in Hulhumalé, has been handed over to her family.

The 31-year-old had died after being run over by a Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) bus, on Monday. It is believed that the driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel.

While the body is being kept in the mortuary, her family arrived in the Maldives on Wednesday.

The MTCC driver was arrested, and the Criminal Court had issued him a three-day remand.

RaajjeMV understands that the driver has the license to operate vehicles.

There have been complaints of safety issues on the MTCC-operated buses, with increased reports of speeding and reckless driving.

Speaking to local news outlet ‘Mihaaru,’ MTCC CEO assured that their drivers “are not overworked.”

While the company is to cover all expenses in the case, they are currently working to send her body back home.
