Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has held a camp to celebrate National Children’s Day.

Children’s Day Camp 2019 was organized with the help of Think Maldives, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives Red Crescent, and Maldives Ports Limited in Hulhumale’.

The Ministry stated that the purpose of the camp is to empower children by teaching them valuable skills and helping them with their future development.

Speaking at the conclusion ceremony, Minister Shidhatha Shareef highlighted the success of the camp, which saw children of different ages participate, and she expressed hope that the children will use their newly learnt valuable life, leadership, and communication skills.

National Children’s Day will be on May 10 and this year’s theme is children’s empowerment.

49 students in grades four through six participated in the camp, which was held on Saturday from 6am to 6pm. They participated in various indoor and outdoor activities including preparing healthy food, protecting themselves from violence and abuse, and were taught human rights and traffic laws through information sessions.

Those who held information sessions at the camp include the police service, human rights commission, UNICEF Maldives, Society for Health Education, Advocating the Rights of Children, Total Fitness Group, and Oishii Restaurant.
