The project to develop a technology park in Fuvahmulah is ongoing, confirms Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal.

A technology park or science park is an area that accommodates and fosters firms affiliated with universities or research bodies to share and promote research and innovation.

Speaking in Fuvahmulah, Minister Maleeh said they have evaluated the establishment of an IT institute with a technology park and have discussed the allocation of land for the project with the Fuvahmulah City Council.

Minister Maleeh said that the purpose of the project is to develop technologically capable population and turn Maldives into a high-tech country. He said that Fuvahmulah already has a population of youths that are technology-friendly and that many have experience in developing apps.

He said that the government’s plan is to build a ‘silicon island’ as part of the President’s pledge to develop the IT institute in Fuvahmulah.

He highlighted the technological development with the help of the Fuvahmulah Incubator Development Center and National Centre for Information Technology, which have also made way for robotics classes.

He added that the government is willing to assist tech companies that want to register at the technology park.
