President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s upcoming trip to India, to attend an Indian Premier League (IPL) match, is on the invitation of the country’s cricket board, reveals the President’s Office.
President’s Office spokesperson Ibrahim Hood told RaajjeMV that the president has decided to accept an invitation extended by the board, adding that they will be funding the two-day trip as well.
President Solih is scheduled to depart to India on Sunday morning, and will be attending Sunday’s IPL match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. He will return to Maldives on Monday.
He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof.
Back in February, a friendly match was held between Maldives and India, with President Solih and other government officials on the Maldivian team and well-known Indian cricket stars in ‘Air India’ team.
In addition, as part of the government’s plans to enhance the sport, it is seeking India’s assistance in the construction of a cricket stadium.
