A tornado has caused massive damage in L. Fonadhoo, reports the council.
Ahmed Riyaz, President of the Fonadhoo Council, told RaajjeMV that the tornado has damaged 10 houses with around five receiving major damage.
The tornado had torn the roofs off of houses and collapsed walls with some houses receiving major damage after uprooted trees fell on top of them.
The outer wall of the Fonadhoo preschool and its play area have also been destroyed. Overall, 30 large trees have been uprooted along with many smaller trees.
Council President Riyaz also said that Fonadhoo experienced consistent rain on Thursday and Friday.
He said that the council is now working with the defence force and local authorities to determine the extent of the damage and provide aid to the victims.
No one has been hurt in the incident.
Fonadhoo has a population of 2,800 and 90% are in the civil service.
