The transport authority also penalized drivers according to the same law in other cases, including the incident on February 17 when a car travelling at high speeds from Hulhumale’ to Hulhule’ lost control and broke a fence and a lamppost and crashed into the outer barrier of the highway. The driver’s license has been suspended for two years.
Another driver’s license was also suspended for two years after he injured a pedestrian while driving a van in Thimarafushi on March 12.
At the time, the media cited the victim's family saying that her skull was fractured in three places and she suffered internal bleeding in the brain and had been left in a coma.
