The state has appealed the Criminal Court’s verdict to acquit a man of all charges over the death of his wife, Ziyadha Naeem.
An official at the prosecutor general’s office said that the appeal was filed on Monday.
Ibrahim Shah had been charged with rape, causing a person’s death through negligence, causing a person’s death through recklessness, and possession of pornography.
In December 2015, the police service stated that their investigation and the autopsy report revealed that Ziyadha had suffered physical and sexual assault.
However, in March, the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to convict Shah on any of the four charges.
