Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has stated that the preparations are sufficient for a free and fair parliamentary election on Saturday.
In a press statement on Friday, HRCM stated that it will be observing the election in three phases, which are the preparations before voting begins, the voting process itself, and after the voting.
HRCM stated that it has publicized weekly reports on its observations on the electoral preparations based on the media reports, meetings held by the relevant authorities, and information received by the commission.
HRCM stated that it has discussed with the relevant authorities on solving the issues highlighted by the reports.
The commission stated that it has conducted awareness programmes on the rights of voters and on the election itself, and their teams have travelled across the Maldives to monitor and ensure that a parliamentary election would be held.
Noting that there have been incidences of unlawfully influencing voters, the commission called on the relevant authorities and the public to ensure that Saturday’s parliamentary election is a free and fair election.
