Several damages to island council premises

A tornado ripped through Kurendhoo island in Lhaviyani atoll in the late hours of Wednesday.

The island’s council President Ismail Madheeh revealed that the tornado touched down at around 12:30am on Thursday.

The tornado had caused an antenna providing cable TV services across the island, placed nearby the council to tear off and fall atop the council premises, leaving a crater and the roof heavily damaged.

Council premise is also reported to have flooded, leaving its furniture damaged, electronics however, were reported safe.

Following the storm, cable TV and internet services have been disengaged in the island.

The tornado had also ripped roof off two boat sheds in the island.

RaajjeMV understands that no one was reported injured following the storm.

The island has a population of about 1,800 people.
