The people have an important decision to make on Saturday, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The president said this while speaking at a campaign rally for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary candidate for Meedhoo constituency, on Wednesday.
While the parliamentary elections are to be held on Saturday, Solih said that “it is the day the people will, once again, decide whether to say no to corruption, or allow it.”
He also appealed to the public to choose representatives “with integrity.”
President Solih further noted that the government requires majority in parliament to fulfill his presidential pledges, as well as to ensure basic rights and strengthen democracy.
Also speaking at the event, the president highlighted Meedhoo island’s contribution to the country’s fisheries sector, and pledged to re-develop its jetty area and establish a multi-purpose hall in the island school.
In addition, he announced that work to build a passenger jetty in two other islands in the atoll- Rinbidhoo and Hulhudhehi islands- will start this year, as well as work to establish a water and sewerage system in Bandidhoo island.
