Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated that they are investigating Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD)’s Felidhoo candidate Abdulla Arif.
Arif, who is related to Former President Abdulla Yameen, is being investigated over a case involving the Maafaru Airport being developed by Center Enterprises, a company in which he was a stakeholder.
He relinquished his stake on January 30 to run in the parliamentary election and was summoned to ACC on February 25.
In 2008, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) tasked Center Enterprises with handling a tug boat but ACC stopped their work in 2012 over corruption allegations.
Afterwards, Civil Court ordered MPL to pay MVR 42.7 million to Center Enterprises over unpaid maintenance fees and fines and High Court backed the verdict in January.
ACC has stated that their investigation confirms that Center Enterprises had submitted forged documents during the investigation.
ACC also stated that Arun Excello, another company in which Arif is a stakeholder, was also investigated and prosecuted over corruption involved in their construction of housing units in Laamu atoll after the 2004 tsunami.
RaajjeMV has been unable to contact Arif for a comment.
