A 15-foot pipe dropped from a five-story construction site in capital city Male’ on Sunday.

The police media officer said that the incident occurred at 5:35pm and confirmed that the pipe is 15 feet long and two inches wide.

The pipe dropped on the seat of two parked motorcycles, which were undamaged by the incident. After police officers notified the city council and housing ministry, council officials arrived at the scene and immediately halted the construction work.

Reports of accidents at construction sites have been on the increase. In a recent incident, a foreigner died after being hit by stone that fell from a site in Hulhumale’.

State authorities began cracking down on unsafe construction sites after eight-year-old Rawshan Jian succumbed to injuries after being hit by a cement bag that fell from a site in Male’ last December.
