Police, Customs implement six-month paid maternity leave policy
Many state-owned and private companies have also begun implemented the new policy

Employees of the police service and Maldives customs will now be granted six-month paid maternity leave and one-month paternity leave, according to the government’s new policy.

The police service stated that the management board decided to implement the new policy on Wednesday and that the necessary policy amendments and permissions were finalized on Thursday.

Customs stated that the new policy was implemented according to the government’s 100-day agenda and has been publicized in the government gazette.

Many state-owned and private companies have also begun implemented the new policy.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that granting six-month paid maternity leave is one the most significant pledges in his 100-day agenda and that the government has now fulfilled 83 percent of the pledges in the agenda.
