Abdul Mughni has said that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had not even contacted him before they withdrew support for his campaign.

Mughni won the North-Thinadhoo constituency in the MDP primary election but lost the ruling party’s support on Monday over a 10-year-old domestic violence accusation.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Mughni said that MDP has still not informed him that they have withdrawn their support.

Mughni said that he found out about this on the news and added that he does not believe that MDP is a party that makes decisions on baseless rumors.

Mughni received the MDP ticket after winning the North-Thinadhoo constituency with 685 votes. He said that he is still determined to win the seat with the approval and adoration of its constituents.

MDP supporters in Thinadhoo came out on Monday to show support for Mughni. They condemned MDP for making the decision outside regulations and going against the decision of the constituents.

Mughni allegedly assaulted his then wife 10 years ago but the incident was not reported to the authorities.
