A man has been injured after being hit by falling bricks from a construction site in capital city Malé on Thursday.

The man was riding down the road before being hit on the shoulder by the falling bricks, on Thursday morning. Police media official reported that the accident was reported to them at around 11:30 and that the bricks had fallen from a construction site in Galolhu-ward of the capital.

RaajjeMV understands that the man has been released from the hospital after receiving treatment for injuries to his shoulder.

This comes at a time there has been a hike in such life-threatening accidents that have flared public outrage. While falling objects from construction sites injuring people has become a mounting concern, a similar accident had killed an expatriate in the capital’s suburban extension Hulhumalé quite recently.

A similar accident in a construction site in Maafannu ward also led to the death of a young Bangladeshi girl who was hit by a falling cement bag last December.

Following the accident, a review of safety procedures and inspection of all construction sites had begun so as to take stern measures against those who go against construction regulations. Malé City Council has since been given the authority to penalize violations of construction safety regulations.
