India's External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj is to arrive in Maldives on an official visit, next week.

A credible source informed RaajjeMV that the minister will arrive next Sunday, and that she will be welcomed at a special ceremony.

When reached for a comment, spokesperson at the foreign ministry did not dismiss the report, but stated that such visits will be publicized 'as per agreed by both nations.'

RaajjeMV understands that important agreements are to be signed during the Indian minister visit to Maldives, including importing of staple goods to Maldives for a period of three years.

While bilateral relations between Maldives and India had soured during former President Abdulla Yameen's five-year tenure, incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration has been working on fixing it.

The president's maiden voyage was to India, a month after assuming office, where both countries signed key agreements including a visa agreement which came into effect this month.

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that India's decision to provide financial assistance up to USD 1.4 billion in the form of 'budgetary support, currency swap and concessional lines of credit to fulfil socio-economic development programmes.'
