The parliament speaker has not yet discussed holding a sitting next week, says Mohamed Aslam, leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group.
Concluding last week’s sitting, speaker Qasim Ibrahim said that he will schedule future sittings after discussing it with parliamentary group leaders.
After meeting with the leaders, speaker Qasim has decided not to hold sittings this week. Since then, MP Aslam said that he has not requested for any more meetings.
Since the beginning of this year’s first session on February 7, seven sittings have been held so far.
At the sittings, the parliament passed the amendment to reject ballot papers with unnecessary markings, and the amendment to allow people to fund their pilgrimage trips with their pension funds.
The bill to empower the presidential commissions and the legal services bill were sent back to the committee for re-evaluation.
The parliament also summoned Defence Minister Mariya Didi and Housing Minister Athifa Shakoor for questioning.
The first session of the year will conclude in April, the same month as the parliamentary election.
