The European Union (EU) has expressed interest in holding an investors dialogue with Maldives.

EU Ambassador Tung-Lai Margue said this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Fourth Maldives-EU Policy Dialogue at Kurumba Maldives resort on Monday.

At the event, Ambassador Margue highlighted the success of their investors dialogue with Sri Lanka.

He also said that he is encouraged to see the Maldives continue to move towards a greener economy and highlighted that climate change and protection of the environment is an area on which the EU and the Maldives are both like-minded and have a long history of successful cooperation.

The purpose of the Policy Dialogue is to facilitate engagement between the EU and Maldives in areas such as democracy and governance, strengthening of the justice sector, promotion and protection of human rights, climate change, the environment, development and security cooperation, Schengen Visa facilitation, and the EU-Asia Connectivity Strategy.

Ambassador Margue was accompanied by 11 heads of mission from the EU and the Maldives delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and includes members of the Maldives cabinet.
