Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that it needs parliament majority to fulfill the promises made in President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s address.

In a press statement, the ruling party praised the presidential address for its optimism.

MDP stated that the party’s manifesto has outlined steps to bring major changes to Maldives for the public good and that the people have become hopeful that President Solih is implementing the policies accordingly.

The party stated that the presidential address has guaranteed that President Solih and the party is moving forward to make the country fair and independent.

MDP stated that the President has vowed to uphold the party’s goal of keeping the judges independent, establishing justice and equality as well as eliminating corruption and embezzlement.

MDP also stated that the President has disclosed their aim of establishing a decentralized system, providing housing, as well as introducing income tax, minimum wage, and unemployment benefits.

Pledging free education for students in higher education, low interests for those studying abroad, and providing long term loans has also renewed people’s hope, MDP added.

Since President Solih and MDP are working for the same goals, the party stated that the people, if they wish to see those promises fulfilled, need to empower the government by giving MDP a clear majority in parliament.
