More than 25 pilots of national airline Maldivian are to hold a strike on Monday to protest safety issues.

On condition of anonymity, a captain told RaajjeMV that they have many issues on the way Maldivian treats it's pilots.

He said that Maldivian has been negligent towards the pilots and the issues have remained unsolved during the previous administration and this one.

He said that 25 pilots will not be on duty on Monday and that the number is likely to rise.

He also said that while civil aviation regulations have determined the maximum for pilot duty to be seven days on account of emergencies, Maldivian has made seven days the norm, which he said is unsafe due to fatigue.

He said that their demands include the dismissal of Mohamed Ameen, the director of flight operations for Island Aviation, which operates Maldivian, since he has always tried to make their issues political instead of solving them.

Predicting that their strike would hinder flight operations, he said that they will start working again after their demands are met.

Maldivian is notably the most popular domestic carrier for locals and tourists.

Island Aviation is yet to comment on the matter.
