President Solih departs to Sri Lanka on three-day official visit

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Sunday morning departed to Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit.
The president will be the chief guest at the country’s 71st Independence Day celebrations on Monday, after accepting the invitation extended by President Maithripala Sirisena.
This will be the first time a Maldivian president attends the neighboring country’s Independence Day celebrations as guest of honour.
This trip to Sri Lanka will also be President Solih’s first official visit there since assuming presidency last November, he had traveled to the country on an unofficial trip in early January.

During the trip to Sri Lanka, President Solih is expected to meet with Maldivians residing there on Sunday, at the Maldives embassy.
Days ahead of the president’s trip, Maldives’ newly appointed ambassador to Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razzaq presented his credential to President Sirisena on Friday.
Maldives and Sri Lanka have enjoyed friendly relations since the former country’s independence in July 1965.
