Terror charges dropped against number of high-profile figures

Prosecutor General (PG) Office has withdrawn the terror charges against a number of high-profile figures.
They are; former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Dhiggaru constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon, Kinbidhoo constituency MP Abdulla Riyaz, former Police Commissioner Ahmed Areef and Mohamed Nadheem.
Terror charges were raised against them over the controversial ruling issued by the Supreme Court on 1st February 2018, over allegations of conspiring a coup.
Informing them that the office has decided not to move forward with the charges against them, PG Office said that the case has been sent back to police.
While the office has withdrawn the charges raised against them, the criminal court has concluded the preliminary hearings in the case.
Last week, the PG Office withdrew the bribery charges against MP Faris.
