Jumhooree Party (JP) has stated that it will give tickets to the party’s MPs who were dismissed from the previous parliament.
JP spokesperson Ali Solih told RaajjeMV that the party will give tickets to their MPs who were unseated last year by the Supreme Court and the Elections Commission.
Out of the 12 dismissed MPs, the ones affiliated with JP are Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul latheef Mohamed, Hanimaadhoo MP Hussain Shahudhee, Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth Manik, Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed, Villingili MP Saud Hussain, Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed, and North Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah.
Solih said that they are now interviewing the 97 members who have expressed interest in running in April’s parliamentary election and that a subsequent report will be presented to a five-member committee, which will decide whether to hold a primary election for the constituencies before giving the party tickets.
JP earlier stated that it will give the party tickets before January 25.
Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM)’s vice president Aminath Nadira said that they have so far interviewed 89 of the 108 members interested in running in the election and that they will give tickets to three female candidates. She said that they will decide on which constituencies to contest after discussions with the four leaders of the coalition.
Ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is contesting 86 out of the 87 seats.
